Chris and Queen...the x-705 is fully qualified to do all the things you say you want to do with a vlf...I realize you have a friend that uses the Explorer...it is a great machine. It is also an extremely heavey machine and requires serious application to fully appreciate.
I use my x-70 at the beach in dry and wet sand, I use it at the parks when I want to get a little detector fix and I have found some grain sized nuggets out in the Dales...it will with the proper coil do it all.
In my last park trip I found a 1903 barber dime, a wheaty and the usual junk, the trip before I found an old silver coin that someone holes and made into a necklace, before that another barber dime and wheaties/junk...a few week earlier a 10k mens bracelet worth about 300 in gold value, the trip after that a womans 14k ring worth about 100 in gold...pounds of junk coins at the beach...you get my point...
I like my x-70 but it took a while to get to know it...I could know it better but for my use it is fine...the Xterra-705 is even better than the x-terra-70...

Fred Thank you so very much for the advice I talked with Chris not 100% sure yet but keeping the X 705 might be a big possibility. I told him I wouldn't have a problem with that...
